There is something chilling yet beautiful about Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires.

A final resting place situated in one of the most affluent neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, the cemetery is known for the stunning architecture of its lavish mausoleums, all laid out in a maze of narrow granite and marble rows. It is the “who’s who” of Argentina, complete with the graves of Nobel Prize winners, famous authors, former presidents and, of course, Eva Peron.

Admission to this stunning cemetery is free, and there are also free tours in English several days of the week. We were absolutely enchanted by the cemetery when we went: it is a photographer’s dream, and a must-see for those passing through Buenos Aires.
