“We spent a month in Puglia.”
“The heel of the boot.”
A month in Puglia WAS cool. (Actually, it was blazing hot, since it was in the month of July.) But thankfully, this Southern Italian region is bordered by the Ionian and Adriatic Seas, guaranteeing that you are just a few minutes drive from “a beach” at any given time. When not snorkeling in the area’s aqua waters or sampling their delicious sea food dishes, we were wandering around its beautiful towns, reveling in anonymity (there are NO Americans in Puglia!) and visiting an occasional wine store for some Negroamaro.
We weren’t sure if the Ionian or Adriatic would offer the best experience, so we did both. The consensus? It all depends on if you prefer to see your sun rise or set over the water. Of course, you can always wake up on the Adriatic, then take a 20-minute drive over the Ionian, and making a day of chasing the sun. All in a day’s work. 🙂
